Description

Bukima tented camp is situated outside the Virunga national park boundary and it is one of the major starting points for Virunga’s mountain gorilla trekking. The camp was initially constructed for researchers but today it is used mainly by trekkers. Visitors at Bukima tented camp spend their night in platform tents but by camping standards, they are a bit good. Each tent has a bathroom with running water and bed and dresser for clothes. The tented camp also has clear views especially to the south which is dominated by Mount Mikeno that stretches about 4437 meters over the gorilla sector. Across the valley, there is Nyiragongo volcano whose Lava Lake decorates the night sky with a red glow. In many cases, the mountain gorillas can also be sighted around the Bukima tented camp.
