A Rebel attack in Eastern Congo has left two rangers killed on a line of duty of protecting the mountain gorillas. The attack took place in Virunga National Park, one of the world’s last sanctuaries for the endangered mountain gorillas. The park officials confirmed the death of these two heroes and reported that third ranger is still missing after the attacks on Saturday!
Virunga National Park is Africa’s oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site but a lot of political conflicts have greatly damaged the security of the park.
The park said in a statement that the four ranger posts on the shores of Lake Edward were attacked by more than 120 rebels belonging to what appears to be a new coalition of militia groups that distabilise part of Eastern Congo.
